What happens once I'm employed? [-]

Our support does not stop once you get a job — it just begins. Our trained staff will support you during the important initial period of work and beyond.

  • We meet the employer to discuss your employment with them and make sure that you are treated equally as one of the workforce:
  • We make sure that you have a contract of employment, and receive a fair wage
  • We make sure that you get a proper induction to the job and that any training needs are met
  • We make sure you receive adequate Health and Safety instructions
  • We make sure you are happy with all the arrangements.

MTIB regularly monitor the progress of WORKSTEP participants and carry out at least two visits a year. We ask you and your employer for an update on what you have done in work and whether anything else needs doing to help you.

What employers have said about MTIB's WORKSTEP scheme [-]
Our organization finds the WORKSTEP scheme invaluable and the MTIB staff very understanding, knowledgeable and supportive. There are good lines of communication without being overburdened with monitoring. The telephone and email monitoring is good, and the monitoring visits are relaxed but thorough.
Chris Birch — Disability Powys
The Development Officers without exception have been excellent, spending a lot of time apart from their duties listening to my employees and talking over their issues, even dealing with problems they encounter in their personal life.
Recruitment isn’t an issue within our area but I wouldn’t hesitate to enlist your assistance if needed.
Steve Whiting — Sodexho
MTIB Workstep Officers have consistently provided good information to Hafal and have supported and encouraged the staff they support through the scheme.
Nicola Thomas — HAFAL
The scheme has been of great benefit to our organisation and its employees. Staff have been able to progress in their work, been supported to take on extra roles, improved confidence and done their jobs with the knowledge that the disability does not imped their progression. The support from mtib staff has been excellent in all areas
Yvonne Parfitt — Crossroads Merthyr
What the people we have directly helped have said about WORKSTEP [-]
Being on WORKSTEP has made an incredible difference to my life, and that of my family – by working, although only part time I have been able to come off benefits and start to build a career that I can cope with.
Camilla Lovelace — Merthyr Tydfil Play Forum
The support provided has helped improve my confidence levels; the extra support makes a big difference. I feel that the Workstep scheme helps emphasise to employers that disability is not such a big issue.
Grace Rothery
It has been greatly encouraging to know that on return to work after illness there is a support system in place to rely on should you need any assistance. All staff contacts have been extremely knowledgeable and given encouragement and a sense of stability at a time when self esteem is greatly challenged.
Diane Suffield
A very good scheme; I am very pleased with the service.
Nicola Johnson — Hoover Candy
I am really grateful for the help and support I have been given. They have been a great help much appreciated.
How could MTIB improve its services? No need they are brilliant.
Mark Quick — Mike Evans Building & Plastering Contractors
