Alun Davies AM visits MTIB on 26th September 2011

MTIB hosted Alun Davies AM, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and European Programmes and Huw Lewis AM, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney on 26th September 2011.

Jeans for Genes Day

Staff at MTIB once again participated in the annual "Jeans for Genes" day, in aid of children living with genetic conditions.

The money raised goes to support various charities in their specialist care and investment is made in research to better understand and improve their conditions which influences future treatment.

The collection by staff raised £31.14.

MTIB Overcome the Unlucky Elements

MTIB’s 13th annual charity golf event proved to be unlucky in one respect – the weather! It absolutely persisted down from the first tee off to the last.

With driving rain and temperatures more reminiscent of late autumn instead of spring, 23 teams bravely embraced the elements and faced the challenging course at Morlais Castle Golf Club.

Although the weather proved to be unlucky, the Institute is exceptionally lucky and fortunate to have Companies and individuals who generously support the event.

Goodbye and Farewell!

December is a new month for MTIB, and with the new month comes big changes for the organisation. We say goodbye to two members of staff, who are off to pastures new, and see our long-serving Chief Executive, John Stacey, go off to enjoy his retirement.

Thank you to all our WORKSTEP clients!

On 25th October, the DWP WORKSTEP programme concluded, and was reborn as the Work Choice programme. We have sent out letters to all our clients explaining the change, and some may stay with us, and some may, regrettably, be transferred to a different provider as part of the transition process.

The WORKSTEP team have immensely enjoyed working with all of our customers over the past decade, and we are proud to have helped each and every person that has come through the scheme, or benefited from it in some way.

MTIB now an Agored (OCN Wales) accredited centre!

MTIB has just successfully undergone a formal external verification process by Agored, which now allows us to deliver OCN accredited modules and qualifications.

This is a significant achievement for our Training team, as we move into the new Work Choice and Welfare to Work programmes, as we now are able to deliver nationally recognised qualifications, that would assist our students in gaining the requisite skills and experience that would enable them to progress into employment.

Secretary of State for Wales Peter Hain visits MTIB

Peter HainOn Thursday 17th September 2009, The Rt Hon Peter Hain MP, Secretary of State for Wales, in the presence of Dai Havard MP for Merthyr and Rhymney, visited MTIB's premises to get a first-hand view of the work we are doing, and to discuss the new Department of Work and Pensions "Work Choice" contract, which is scheduled to come into place in October 2010.

Great Estyn result for MTIB!

In October 2009 MTIB underwent a successful Estyn inspection.

Seven inspectors visited MTIB during a full week and met with a number of clients, hosts and partners. We showcased our facilities and services and were awarded with an overall grading of 2 which is 'good features and no important shortcomings.'

MTIB also had some excellent features identified in our Basic Skills support and development of wider skills such as social skills. MTIB is very pleased with the outcome of the inspection and would like to thank all involved for their support.
